Although our current Primary and Associate Membership for 2023 have experienced a 32% attrition, the upcoming Presidential Election 2024 hopefully will see an increase of membership reflected in the completion of new construction in both Queen Creek and San Tan Valley which encompasses both 85142 and 85140 zip codes in addition to the Florence 85132 zip code, Merrill Ranch communities are experiencing major new construction. Experience the drive on Hunt Highway past the Pioneer Justice Center and you'll "feel" the difference! We currently have 8 Primary Members and 5 Associate Members living in the Florence zip code.
MEMBER HIGHLIGHT
In the month of June and thereafter, a new face will greet you at the Check-in and Membership Table. Please help me welcome BERTA LOCKHART as my new 2nd VP of Membership. She has graciously volunteered to fulfill my term until December 31, 2023. Berta currently serves as our Americanism Chairperson and has done an excellent job reporting about America's traditions that resonate with the greatness of the United States of America. I've had the pleasure to meet and get to know Berta on a personal level and her background is worthy of reading. She has a very interesting career and I know she will be an asset to our Executive Board overseeing the Membership information that is mandated to report to the Arizona Federation of Republican Women (AZFRW) and eventually to the National Federation of Republican Women (NFRW). Berta is eager to continue the state goal of following the motto: " EACH ONE, BRING ONE". If each of us asks a woman (whom you think is an Independent or Republican woman) to attend our General Meeting as YOUR GUEST, we can engage and empower more involvement. The power of ONE is the message for our RWF Club! Think about a neighbor or a friend to bring to our May 16, 2023, GENERAL MEETING.
Having said this, our Member Highlight features two amazing Primary Members KAREN SEIDL and BERTA LOCKHART.
KAREN SEIDL
Karen and husband Tony moved to Arizona from Houston, Texas when their daughter and family, in addition to their son and family, moved to Gilbert. Their younger son also moved to Arizona. Due to Tony's career in the auto industry, Karen raised their children in several states from Minnesota (where Karen and Tony rooted from) to California, Texas, and Michigan. I have had the pleasure to meet Karen's family and her interaction with her adult children and grandchildren validates her pride, joy, maternal sacrifice, and devotion to her Christian faith. Karen's nursing background has directed her to make sound health-oriented decisions as to the healthy upbringing of her family. However, Karen can attest it has been her fervent Christian faith that was impetuous to be a strong Republican conservative woman. Ask her about the miracle survival of her younger son when he was a young adult in business. It is truly inspirational.
If you see Karen Seidl around Encanterra, stop and ask her for more details about her other joy and passion besides faith, family, country, and limited government. Karen is a competent Expedia Travel Agent who has strong savvy in the Cruise Line Industry. Karen and Tony are not embarrassed to admit they are true "Cruise Hounds". And of course, she checks out these cruises for business reasons….really?? Way to go Karen for working and balancing "Living the Good Life"!
BERTA LOCKHART
If you meet Berta, one's initial personal perception is her warmth and quiet demeanor. Under her warmth and gracious smile are years of fortitude and tenacity one does not expect of this petite wife, mother, grandmother, and fellow Lady Patriot. Berta's retired career seems to be the surprise epiphany of who she is today. Berta Lockhart retired from the Bureau of Prisons (BOP) after 29 years of service. In her 29 years of service, she became the first female to serve in various positions including Assistant Warden and eventually attaining top positions as Warden for the U.S. Penitentiary in Florence, Colorado; Federal Correctional Institution Safford, Arizona; and Federal Correctional Institution, Tucson. Berta shared that her most difficult assignment was the high-security penitentiary in Florence, Colorado. Prior to her top assignments, Berta was also the first female in the country as a Discipline Hearing Officer and Discipline Hearing Administrator.
Berta's life history started in her hometown of Mesquite, New Mexico (12 miles from Las Cruces). She is proud of her Hispanic heritage and her college degree from New Mexico University. Her major led her to her first assignment to West Virginia where she met her husband Jack Lockhart, who also worked and retired with the Bureau of Prisons. With both careers in the Bureau of Prisons, their assignments brought them to live in West Virginia, Texas, Colorado, and Arizona. Married in 1980, Berta and Jack have two proud children and six grandchildren. Her grandson from her son's prior marriage in the Philippines has established a wonderful relationship between Grandma and Grandpa with this special needs boy. Berta's visit in May 2023 attests to her love and good heart to have a strong and viable relationship with her grandson.
Berta's conservatism evolved not only in her career in the penal system but being a daughter of a World War II Army Veteran, the mother of an Iraq Army Veteran (who served two tours), and a daughter-in-law whose father also was a military veteran. In addition to her family's influence, her utmost credit is her Christian Catholic faith. Berta's involvement with her Bible Study classes, caring for her grandchildren on a regular basis, and daily devotion to our Lord and the Holy Trinity define Berta Lockart who continues to give of her heart in her community volunteerism.
Sooo…when you check in and are greeted by Berta, just remember….do as she asks like "CHECK-IN" first before you find your name badge OR she'll know what to do with you….. wink…wink…a little mirth to get to know the real SWEET Berta!
